How did your interest in fashion designing begin, and why did you focus more on saree design?
My interest in fashion design began in childhood, influenced by the vibrant colors and intricate patterns of traditional Bangladeshi textiles. Growing up, I was always surrounded by creativity—my mother was a skilled embroiderer, and I would often watch her work. The saree, being a quintessential garment in our culture, represents not just fashion but also our heritage and identity. I chose to focus on saree design because I believe it’s a canvas that allows me to express my creativity while honoring our traditions.

I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with talented filmmakers and actors, which has enriched my understanding of storytelling through fashion. One of the main challenges is balancing artistic vision with the practical needs of production—ensuring that costumes are not only visually stunning but also comfortable and functional for the actors. Additionally, navigating tight deadlines and budget constraints can be quite demanding.
What is your process for designing sarees? Where do you draw your inspiration from?
My design process begins with research and understanding the theme or occasion for which the saree is intended. I draw inspiration from various sources, including nature, art, and our rich cultural heritage. I often visit local markets and textile fairs to explore new materials and techniques. I also love to incorporate traditional Bangladeshi motifs and weaving styles into my designs, blending them with contemporary elements to create something unique.
What kind of story-driven films would you like to design costumes for, and why?
I would love to design costumes for films that explore themes of identity, culture, and resilience. Stories that highlight the struggles and triumphs of women, particularly in the context of Bangladeshi society, resonate deeply with me. I believe that through thoughtful costume design, we can enhance the narrative and bring characters to life, making their journeys more relatable and impactful.
