School of Entrepreneurship Development (SED) has taken a groundbreaking step in advancing sustainability education in Bangladesh by launching the Center for Green Impact & Entrepreneurship (CGIE) at University of Dhaka, according to an official statement.
This initiative marks a historic milestone, as CGIE becomes Bangladesh’s first and the world’s first university-hosted green learning center dedicated exclusively to climate leadership, sustainability-focused Education and responsible innovation, the statement said.
The Center is hosted by DU Writers’ Hub at the University of Dhaka and is being implemented through a strategic collaboration between SED and DU Writers’ Hub. The establishment of CGIE reflects a growing national and global demand for climate-aware professionals and green-skilled youth capable of leading future economic and environmental transformations.
Designed as a specialized learning and skills development platform, CGIE aims to prepare university students for leadership roles in the emerging global green economy by equipping them with advanced knowledge of sustainable technologies, climate action frameworks, green standards, and innovative business models.
Through this initiative, more than 25,000 undergraduate students of the University of Dhaka are expected to receive structured training on sustainability, climate leadership and green startup development, making it one of the most extensive university-based green capacity-building efforts undertaken in Bangladesh to date.
CGIE will offer a wide range of academic pathways and training tracks covering key areas such as renewable energy and the global green transition, clean technologies and industrial innovation, circular economy principles, sustainable infrastructure and mobility systems, environmental protection and digital technologies supporting sustainability.
In addition, the Center will deliver specialized hands-on training modules focusing on sustainability practices, circular and zero-waste transitions, ESG compliance, Digital Product Passport (DPP) systems, responsible supply chain standards, and the promotion of responsible innovation and green entrepreneurship.
The mission of CGIE is to develop a new generation of Sustainability Champions, Climate Fellows and Green Project Leaders capable of contributing meaningfully to Bangladesh’s climate-resilient development agenda.
Representatives from DU Writers’ Hub present at the meeting included Nafisa Nur Hoque, President; Morioum Islam Shawly, General Secretary and Sadiha Afrose Shubhrata, Additional Head of Editing. On behalf of School of Entrepreneurship Development Kazi Hafsa Jahan, Head of External & Corporate Affairs; Project Coordinaotor Mahir Ahmed Hamza and Mahbub Rahman, Cofounder of CGIE and SED were present.
By integrating global-standard learning systems with practical green training modules, the Center for Green Impact & Entrepreneurship aims to set a new academic benchmark for sustainability education within Bangladesh’s higher education sector.
